On the Cutting Edge Nutrition is all about empowering you, the reader, to be more informed and confident in your ability to take control of your health.  For too long patients have just accepted and trusted current medical practices, often ending in frustration and ineffective treatment for individuals who don’t quite have the “typical” symptoms or lab results.  This often starts a cycle of medications or long-term diets that can make symptoms worse and end with unintended health problems.  The root cause of chronic, non-life threatening conditions (such as constipation or bloating) never seem to be solved and end with worsening symptoms that traditional medicine just can’t seem to resolve. While our current medical system of care has served us well for many years, saving many lives along the way and is still necessary and extremely valuable, it is flawed.  And most healthcare practitioners are good people who care and are doing their best to help their patients.

This blog is written to educate and inform you about the latest nutrition and genomics research and the fledgling functional medical model.  It will also include information about other non-traditional therapies, such as essential oils, herbals, and dietary supplements.  However, “traditional” nutrition advice, which is still accurate and worth learning about, will be included - such as the time proven “eat more fruits and vegetables people!” mantra that ALL dietitians teach; recipes; how to really apply good nutrition concepts while living in the “real world”, food legislation that affects the food supply, and more.  And along the way, I hope to include some fun stuff as well!  This blog will always be a work in progress, but the goal is to make you more informed, smart, and confident in managing your diet and daily meals in a healthy way that positively impacts your health and fosters a partnership between you and your healthcare providers.
